The Role

We are seeking a personable, motivated Technical Director to join our growing team of UK wide ecologists, working closely with other disciplines, including our Construction & Aquatics, and Hydrology teams.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership on a wide range of projects, providing specialist advice while collaborating with our team of expert ecologists and consultants to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about shaping the direction of our Ecology team, enjoys problem-solving, and values building strong relationships with clients.

Working alongside the Business Manager (Ecology), you’ll support their overall line management of team by developing technical competency frameworks and mentoring our talented team, sharing your specialist knowledge to empower the next generation of ecology leaders.

What You’ll Do

We are looking for a Technical Director to be involved with our diverse client base:
• Lead on technical excellence, with an advanced specialism in one or more Ecology specialisms. Provide technical delivery and direction for projects which fall within your technical specialism.
• Reporting to the Ecology Business Manager supporting customer service, sales growth and employee morale.
• Review and approve specialist reports as well as project proposals.
• Actively generate sales with existing and prospective clients, proactively seeking out networking opportunities and driving the production of bids, proposals and tenders.
• Attend client and project meetings, providing accurate, proactive and advanced consultancy advice.
• Have a high degree of autonomy in managing your workload whilst providing and support the Business Manager (Ecology) in managing an effective workload and resource management across the Ecology team.
• Develop technical competencies, identifying technical skills gaps in Gavia’s offering and supporting individuals with Continual Professional Development. Proactive in identifying opportunities for growth and helping to facilitate personal career development aspirations and recruiting talent.
• Operating at all times in accordance with the CIEEM/IEMA/CIWEM/IFM Professional Code of Conduct.

What We’re Looking For

Essential:
• Relevant degree or master’s qualification – ecological/environmental
• Full Member of CIEEM.
• Hold a range of survey and mitigation licences.
• Examination in Public or Public Inquiry experience.
• Demonstratable experience in providing clients with an ecologically sound scheme.
• Able to prioritise workloads and work under time pressure with changing work requirements.
• Advanced written and verbal communication skills both internally and with clients/stakeholders.
• Well-developed creative, lateral thinking, sound judgement, resourcefulness and problem-solving skills.
• Advanced knowledge of planning policy and legislation for England, Scotland and Wales
• Proven track record of CPD.
• Full, clean UK driving licence.

Desirable:
• Experience of PM software (WorkflowMax would be advantageous)
